Lamenting
Eileen Renders May 2024
As Catholics, we see, hear, and understand God often in different ways. Today, I want to share with everyone a faith experience that I have lived. My husband and I were spending time in Florida for about a month. In the backyard, my husband spent time building a canoe. Inside, I wanted to try my hand at doing a painting. For days I attempted to paint, and my attempts were unsuccessful. One day as I sat at a table contemplating what kind of painting to try, I heard the soft voice I knew to be Jesus say; “Why not paint Me?”
Shocked and confused, I replied internally; “Jesus I am not an Artist, I could never paint You. I could do You no justice.” Jesus replied; “I will be with you.” I could not refuse. With an old piece of hard cardboard that I had in the house, I viewed a holy picture that hung on the wall of Christ and began the task. As I began painting, I realized I was making some progress. As I continued, it was as though I was watching someone else paint, and I was in awe. I painted things I knew alone I could never have accomplished, such as a part in the hair. Most of all, His eyes will follow you whether you stand to His left or His right.
Note: The original hangs in my bedroom and is not signed as I felt it was the hand of God that guided my hand.
