Happy International Gratitude Week
Today is the feast of the Ascension of Christ. It's a great time to begin a novena to the Holy Spirit, asking that you - like the disciples - may be set on fire with a zeal for spreading Christ's love to others.
As part of my Lectio Divina on today's Scripture, I created music to partner with it.
These are the lyrics I wrote based off Acts 1:8-14:
Ascension! Jesus Lifted Up
© May 9, 2024 Brandy M. Miller
Jesus lifted up
Taken from our sight
Ascended to the light
He was lifted up
Our eyes look to the sky
Where did he go and why?
Our minds can’t comprehend
What it means to ascend
Jesus lifted up
Taken from our sight
Ascended to the light
He was lifted up
Men clothed in light appear
Banishing our fear
He went to Heaven today
He’ll come back the same way
Jesus lifted up
Taken from our sight
Ascended to the light
He was lifted up
Waiting in that upper room
Fending off dark and gloom
Telling stories of His youth
Reminding us of His truth
Jesus lifted up
Taken from our sight
Ascended to the light
He was lifted up
We know one day He’ll come
Take us to His heavenly home
Who knows when that will be
But we believe that we will see
Jesus coming down
Returning to our sight
Bringing us new light
We’ll be lifted up
He will lift us up
I tried to put myself in their shoes and envision what it was like to be one of those disciples. The confusion. The sense of waiting. The uncertainty of it all.
