Why don’t Traditionalists Pray the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary?
This article may not be the opinion of other traditionalists, but it is for some.
The Luminous Mysteries are biblical and many traditionalists are sympathetic to those who pray them. However, that does not give those who pray the Luminous Mysteries or a Pope, in particular, Pope John Paul II the right to force it upon the faithful. They aren’t part of the original Rosary, of Our Lady’s original psalter. It’s a private devotion to have.
Furthermore, mortal men placed these mysteries in the Rosary, not Our Blessed Mother. When Our Blessed Mother gave St. Dominic the Rosary in AD 1214, it was a heavenly gift from the Queen of Heaven. The Rosary is a devotion given to us from Our Blessed Mother in heaven to us mortal men. She gave us this devotion to be devoted to her, but more importantly to be devoted to her Son, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She gave us the Glorious, the Joyful, and the Sorrowful Mysteries. That’s ALL she gave us and until she instructs us otherwise, we are not going to add to her original psalter and pray the Luminous Mysteries. This is not out of disobedience to the Church, but obedience to the Blessed Mother and what she gave us.
Until the day that she instructs that it’s alright to pray the Luminous Mysteries, we will not pray them. Pope John Paul II added them, he was a mortal man. Mortal man doesn’t get to change what Our Blessed Mother has put into place.
Traditionalists will obey the Blessed Mother first and foremost in this devotion to the Rosary. She gave it to us, she gets to say if it is added to or not. This is done out of complete obedience to Our Blessed Mother and her psalter. We will stick to the original mysteries that she gave to us through St. Dominic.
Our Blessed Mother expects us to be devoted to what she gave us, her original psalter. The Glorious, the Joyful, and the Sorrowful Mysteries. She does not expect us to be devoted to what mortal men have tried to change in her psalter, her gift to the world.
