God in All Things ... Even Greeting Cards
Someone gave me an Easter card once and it had the words that end this week’s Gospel in a bright colored background: “Behold I am with you always until the end of the age.” I framed the card and it sits prominently in our home as a reminder that amidst anything we go through in this household, Jesus is with us today and always until the end of time. It’s His final promise to us which is a great comfort to us.
But we all know that life gets in the way of us remembering that promise. “They worshiped but they doubted” are other words in the Gospel this week, and how frequently do those ring true for us? We pray. We worship at Mass each week. We go to confession regularly. We read these articles and we do holy stuff. And yet, we still doubt Jesus’ words at times don’t we? Especially on the dark days or when things aren't going well in our lives.
I know I have days where I do doubt. In my daily anxieties and sufferings, I wonder whether Jesus is really there looking out for me and leading me to joy with Him someday. Almost always, I’m reminded that I’m not promised a life without trials, stresses, and sufferings, but I am promised Jesus’ presence with me through them. I do know that presence has never failed me.
I hope this is your reminder of that today too.
