In defense of autodidacts
I very much caution against using single verses and building a theology out of them.
What I have less of a problem with, however, is meditating on verses.
Did Jesus ever have insomnia, for instance?
Why do I ask this? Because Jesus was like us in all things, but sin (Hebrews 2:17).
So, because I’ve been holding off writing this article, for the sake of taking a nap (which, spoiler; I still haven’t done), I was thinking about Matthew 8:20.
Jesus needed to sleep, because, again, he was like us in all things, except sin.
Falling asleep isn’t a sin. Though, there are times when it would not be advisable.
Like if you’re a guard at a prison, for instance, and you’re on your shift.
Or you’re a train conductor, or you’re in the military during an active battle.
These would not be ideal times to fall asleep.
And if you’re curious, yes, I came up with the idea for an article because I got up super early and never went back to sleep. (For my show Coffee & Christianity, even though it was pre-recorded, I still had to make sure it worked, Coffee and Christianity)
Eventually, coffee stops working.
Let’s go ahead and see what the Douay Rheims version says for Matthew 8:20,
“And Jesus saith to him; The foxes have holes, and birds of the air nests; but the son of man hath not where to lay his head”.
What do you think? Is this a question you’ve ever had?
I don’t know, I just know I need sleep.
But I need Jesus more.
