Why God is Like a Polish Grandma
"Do not be far from me,
for trouble is near
and there is no one to help." ~Psalm 22:11
It's quite comforting to know that even when not a single person is there to help, God is always there to help. It's also something that can quite easily be taken for granted. Making the transition from taking the good things we have in our lives for granted to instead being grateful for them is difficult to say the least. I often find myself putting conditions on the type, time, and temper of God's help and I become angry when He doesn't reply, "How high?" after I demand He jump.
For example, I consistently take the Eucharist for granted. If we are being honest with ourselves, I dont think a single one of us had not been guilty of this at least once in our lives. After all, it is difficult to look at a crisp wheat wafer and some watered down wine and think, "This is the King of the universe; the One who has been the sole source of every bit of food and drink that has passed between my hungry lips." Honestly, what kind of god would choose to humiliate himself to the point where he shows up every single day in such humble form? Our God does. But why? It probably wouldn't be a bad idea each of us to go to Adoration and sit with Him for even just a few minutes and meditate on the answer.
