A Pentecost Reflection: The Catholic Church is Still Here
My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As we enter into the Month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, we are also faced with the celebration of the sin of sodomy and active homosexuality.
I want to take a minute to write to you about the homosexuality issue in the clergy. Many faux traditionalists have attempted to accuse the Novus Ordo of promoting such a sin and in fact promoting homosexual clergy.
However, this isn't a Novus Ordo issue, this is an issue that has infected the Church for centuries.
St. Peter Damian wrote in the 11th century (AD 1001 - AD 1100), "For God's sake, why do you damnable sodomites pursue the heights of ecclesiastical dignity with such firey ambition?"
We can see that the Church has struggled with this sin even in her own ranks, it isn't just a problem with Novus Ordo ordained clergy, but also a problem in the Tridentine Mass period and before.
We know that the quote of St. Peter Damian still rings true and we are still battling against homosexual clerics today, but let us remember who conquers all sin in the end, Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ does.
June is not the beginning of the celebration of the sin of pride and sodomy that leads to everlasting hellfire and eternal damnation. Rather the beginning of the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Therefore, let us turn to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and entrust ourselves, the clergy, the Church, and the whole world to Him.
St. Peter Damian, Pray for Us.
Sacred Heart of Jesus, Pray for Us.
In the Sacred Heart of Jesus,
Lawrence T. Westfall
