“If we saw the Church as she is in the most generous souls who live most truly the life of the Church, she would appear most beautiful in our sight, despite the human imperfections which are mingled with the activity of her children. We rightly lament certain blots but let us not forget that if there is sometimes mud in the valley at the foot of the mountain, on the summits there is always snow of dazzling whiteness, air of great purity and a wonderful view that ever leads to the eye God.” Reginald Garribou-Lagrange
Every so often in my spiritual readings I run across something especially beautiful, beautiful and beautifully written. I’m inspired and humbled. A wonderful reminder that although I’m compelled to spiritual writing myself God didn’t give me a gift such as He gave Garribou-Lagrange. This realization saddened me but then I understood and was glad. I asked God for the gift of humility. If I could write this beautifully it would be hard to be humble and when I do receive the occasional praise on one of my writings I smile and think maybe, just maybe something I wrote inspired this appreciator of my simple text to a greater love of God which is my purpose in writing in the first place, a greater love of God for myself and for others. “Thank You Jesus.”
