Passion of the Christ at 20
“If there’s something strange in the neighborhood, who ya going to call?” That was the opening verse of Ray Parker’s 1984 hit Ghostbusters. It was also the title’s sake of a hit comedy-action movie released on June 8th, 1984. The movie starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and the late Harold Ramis.
The movie follows four supernatural exterminators who catch ghosts. The movie would later feature quotable lines from the beloved characters of this cult classic.
The team met a client Dana Barret who received a visit from some ghost of a Gozer worshiper at her apartment. The apartment is believed to be the place where Gozer, an ancient Hittite god, could be resurrected to end all of humanity. As New York is on the edge, the mayor calls on the Ghostbusters to save the day.
The movie is packed with many good one-liners, good plot development, and lines that will resonate with movie lovers for years to come.
Be Open to Discovery
After getting terminated from Columbia University, the Ghostbusters go into business. They released a commercial with the slogan, “We’re ready to believe you.” The team didn’t know that paranormal activities existed in New York. It would change.
Know Your Worth
After getting their first call to catch Slimer at a hotel, the team wanted $5,000 for their service. When the manager refused, Venkman was going to put the ghost back. Then the manager reconsidered. What this scene tells us is that we must know our worth and never accept anything less.
Lay it Out
Sometimes we must tell every detail. It can be to help police in a murder or robbery investigation. For faith, it can be to tell Jesus what is on our hearts. When the Ghostbusters told the mayor what could happen if they didn’t stop the paranormal destruction by spilling the prophetic details.
Some Rules Are Meant to be Broken
Dr. Spangler warned over and over to not cross the streams. He feared it could be dangerous and fatal to those who do. When the odds were stacked against them, Spangler had no choice but to break a rule set. In the end, the team survived and saved the day.
This is a must-see movie. It came before the two recent remakes of the original timeline. It is a must-see for all movie lovers, especially those who enjoy classic films that have defined generations to come.
