Make a Patriotic Holy Hour
For the last seven years, Jack Carr has made a name for himself when he propelled to best seller with his debut novel The Terminal List. Since his impressive debut, he has released five novels following his first. It follows a former Navy SEAL named James Reece who goes after foreign and domestic enemies at home and abroad.
In the latest series of this military thriller, the book has flashes of The Hunt for Red October. Instead of using Russia, Carr wasn’t afraid to make China an antagonist in the latest page-turner.
During his recent podcast, he offers fans a sneak peek of the seventh installment of the series, Red Sky Mourning. I had an opportunity to listen to what to expect from Carr’s upcoming book. Given his background before becoming a best-selling author, it is safe to say that he holds no punches. There is even no doubt that a “Catholic” president was inspired to write a fictitious politician who is a puppet to one of the greatest threats to world democracy today. Truth is stranger than fiction.
After getting a sneak peek of his much-anticipated continuation of the James Reece universe, it will be talked about for years to come. Carr’s latest novel tackles two of the hot-button issues that are pressing our culture today which are artificial intelligence and abortion.
Artificial Intelligence
By now, we are seeing AI becoming a reality. The Catholic Church is wasting little time saying how dangerous it can be to humanity. Carr writes about how it is used to weaponize warfare as a nation and a tech mogul are playing god. What is even more alarming is how this phenomenon can potentially be used against humanity when war takes place. It accelerates decisions faster than human cognition can do.
According to Klaus Schwab, Carr points out that the world is on the verge of a fourth industrial revolution. This new one is evolving at an “exponential rather than a linear pace.” People are having unlimited access to cell phones with storage capacity. Carr points out that the trend will continue through the emergence of breakthroughs such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and biotechnology.
Whether we are veterans or not, AI is going to be problematic as it becomes more and more used in our society. It is having an impact on creativity and the way we think. It is not to be taken lightly as it is being embraced in the classroom.
A TED talk can elaborate more on the dangers of AI in areas we seem to overlook.
One Child Abortion
In what may go down as the longest prologue in literature, Carr delves deeper into the reality of what the one-child policy has done to Chinese civilization. He writes, “Men in China wanted sons. Sons who would carry on the family name.”
The result of the policy, which was implemented in 1980 and lifted in 2016, not only saw a decline in birth rates but also the abortion of millions of Chinese girls.
China will face a population crisis soon. There is little to be done as the nation reaped what they have sown in the last century. Sadly, communism is still flourishing which was part of the agenda.
Jack Carr was bold to share some of the pressing issues our culture will inevitably endure for years to come. This is just the beginning.
Red Sky Mourning is a must-read just like its six prequels. Order a copy today.
