Vacillating Our Trust In God
God Speaks To Us About Health, Food Leaves And Herbs
Eileen Renders
It has been said; “A Long life is a blessing.” For most of us, however, a long life often requires us to carry our Cross for a long time as well. The blessings, I believe that come with age for those who love God and live to serve him are; wisdom, understanding, patience, empathy, and courage.
Not knowing the future, or the course of our life, it is worthwhile adopting those teachings that Jesus taught our ancestors before we were born. Here are a few examples of the medicines manufactured today that were derived from plants and herbs;
Artemisinin Used for treating malaria, this drug is derived from the sweet wormwood plant, also known as Artemisia annua.
Aspirin This drug is derived from the bark of the Willow tree; The active ingredient is salicin, and has been used to relieve pain.
Digitalis Used to treat heart conditions by strengthening the contractions from the heart muscle. This drug is derived from the dried leaves of the common Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea).
Ephedrine This compounded drug originated from the herb Ephedra and is used to treat asthma and nasal congestion.
Morphine This powerful pain reliever is derived from the opium poppy, Papaver somniferum.
Quinine Originally derived from the bark of the cinchona tree, quinine has been used to treat malaria.
Taxol A cancer treatment drug, taxol is derived from the bark of the Pacific yew tree.
Known for their spiritual and symbolic meaning during Biblical times:
Gold A treasured and precious metal signifying wealth, it was a gift given to royalty. Gold was also used in the construction of sacred objects, such as the Ark of the Covenant, the Temple’s altar, and the Tabernacle.
Myrrh Typically Myrrh was used as an anointing oil, for embalming, and as a medicinal herb. Myrrh was an associated symbolic herb denoting suffering and death. Also, used for embalming, and therefore, associated with funerary practices. In the Christian narrative, it prefigured Jesus’ death and embalming.
**Note of Caution: Do not use herbs without approval from your doctor as they can have serious side effects, and be contraindicated with prescribed medications. This article is meant for information only.
Genesis 1:29: Includes a quote from the Bible where God speaks about giving every plant-yielding seed and every tree with fruit-yielding seed to humans for food. The verse is: “Then God said; “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you.”
Revelation 22:2: Mentions the leaves of the Tree of Life being for the healing of the nations, which aligns with the idea of plants being used for medicine.
