The Last Crusade: 35 years
Independence Day is a big holiday in the United States. Many will be traveling or enjoying local festivities.
Catholics can seize this opportunity to thank God for the inalienable rights given to every person who exists. Here are four ways Catholics can celebrate America’s birthday.
Attend Mass
Say any more? It’s important to attend Mass on holidays like Independence Day. Our freedoms come from God, not man.
It’s an opportunity to give thanks to God for the freedom we so enjoy. Offer Mass in thanksgiving for freedom.
Note: some churches will have Mass later than usual due to the holiday.
Pray the Rosary/Make Holy Hour
There is a special rosary to pray for the patriotic holiday. It is a young devotion, but it is gaining some momentum. Learn more from an article written last year.
Perhaps a Holy Hour is in order also as the Blessed Sacrament can use your gaze more than watching the fireworks at night. Offer the Holy Hour for peace and the conversion of our nation.
Invite a neighbor, family member, or friend over
Like every holiday, there is a family member or friend who has no one to spend it with. Be sure to open the door for that person. Encourage them to bring food to share at the gathering. This will mean the world to them that others care.
Sing hymns and Songs of Praise during Fireworks
The fireworks can be a spectacular sight. It can also be a time to sing hymns of praise and worship. Use that time to break into Latin chants, hymns of praise, and even thanksgiving.
Pray for Our Nation
Fulton Sheen prophesized the dangerous path America is going. He recalls, “America is at its weakest morally, politically and economically, and its collapse is now seen by many as imminent” because many have “sold out America’s foundational principles.”
Be sure to pray for America. America will soon return to its root when it roots out all of the eveil within
