Professor Allen and Jesus
“Comfort, give comfort to my people says your God.” Isaiah 40:1
This morning Father Adam reminded us that Jesus, the King of Peace, promised us peace. Father asked, “So how come we don’t have it?” He continued, “We all suffer. Mary and Joseph suffered. Jesus suffered all His life. The prophets and the apostles suffered. Their suffering was a reality.” Father understands our suffering, our daily struggles.
Father asks again, “Where is the peace Jesus promised?” Looking to Holy Scripture for answers, Father read from John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” Jesus promised us peace in our hearts. Jesus will give us the kind of peace the world cannot give.
No one is exempt from suffering. If we follow Christ we will suffer with Christ. Remember those who were persecuted and martyred. Father asks us to prepare our heart, to make room for peace. Jesus Christ is the promise of hope in our earthly suffering. Pope Francis reminds us to let Jesus be a consolation to us, “It is He who brings us to the source of every true consolation, that is, to the Father. And this is conversion. Please, let yourselves be consoled by the Lord! Let yourselves be consoled by the Lord!”
