God Will Bring Glory Through Your Story
In today’s Gospel we hear that Jesus sent his disciples out two by two (2x2). It’s an interesting detail to narrow in on this week.
When I look at my own missions, I notice that the Lord has also sent me out two by two because nearly all my ministries and vocations involve some element of pairing up with someone else. Do you notice that in your own life?
Why 2x2 Lord? It’s like Jesus knew that one wasn’t enough.
“Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor; for if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion." – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
Upon reflection, there’s perfection in the 2x2 mission dynamic. It’s a special pairing of two sets of complementary gifts, styles, and points of view. A 2x2 holds each other accountable when temptations strike. A 2x2 makes up what one is lacking, encourages, and strengthens when things get difficult, and challenges one another in areas they need to grow. A 2x2 can cover when the other is under the weather and the work still needs to be done. Lastly, a 2x2 can help notice God’s power and work and be a witness to it.
Two is better than one when it comes for carrying on Christ’s mission, and that’s why Jesus sent them out and sends us out two by two.
