Letter to High School, College, and Grad School Graduates
Mark Story is a name that is not well-known to many but pro-lifers. He was mainly behind a camera capturing the side of the pro-life movement that the media has failed to cover time after time. He has done it for pro-life groups like Students for Life of America, Live Action, and Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising. He was considered that man behind the camera as there weren’t many pictures of him in front of one.
Mark would show up to every rally, demonstration, or event whether you paid him or not. Virtually every epic picture of the pro-life community was taken by him.
On Thursday, it was announced that Mark died of a heart attack just after doing his prayer walk. It didn’t take long for many pro-lifers to pay tribute to this kind and humble servant of God.
For me, I first encounter Mark in January 2021. It was just days following the January 6th capitol breach as my city was about to have its inaugural Philly March for Life. I saw him doing what he was doing best and that was taking pictures of this ground-breaking peaceful march on a city level. I never knew that I could meet someone in what would be the final three years of his life.
“The light he brought to this world was so tangible,” Isabel Brown wrote on Live Action’s Instagram page.
Felipe Avila, a student of the Catholic University of America and involved with the National Association of Pro-Life Nurses, fondly remembers the late Mark Story. He ran a pro-life nurse’s group and even took part in activities with Students for Life Action. He once thought that he was the “historian for our movement,” as he took on that role with humility and passion.
Lila Rose took to Twitter to pay tribute to this tenacious photographer. “He passionately served the pro-life movement for the last five years, exposing millions to the truth about abortion through his creative photographer.” Lila tweeted. “His incredible talent, and gentle spirit of joy and service, touched everyone who was blessed to work with him. He will be sorely missed.”
Sharing the truth indeed was what God called him to do. Even PAAU can attest to how he shared the truth about the five babies discovered at a late-term abortion facility in Washington, DC.
“Mark believed in the causes he took pictures” Mark Lee Dickson recalled about Story. “He was always encouraging and supportive of every pro-lifer he encountered”
Mark will never be forgotten. One day, his work will be memorialized in a documentary, museum, or even both.
Mark can teach us to leave behind a legacy that will last a lifetime. He has done that by snapping away at what the mainstream media got wrong about the pro-life movement.
Eternal rest, grant unto Mark David Story, Oh Lord. And let the perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen
All are asked to contribute to his father’s GoFundMe page to cover the cost of his chemotherapy treatment.
