Whoops! Pope Francis did it again! (Which is it to be? The lesser of two evils OR the mind of Christ?)
As we embark on yet another nauseating presidential election, I would ask on behalf of myself (and the millions of other reasonable and well-balanced citizens), would you please do the following.
Stop the vitriol, the blame game and the constant polemics. Living with the Democratic and Republican Parties the past two decades has been like living with parents who fight all the time. With the advent of 24/7 news there is chronic deconstructive talk. Like children who close their eyes and plug their ears to the raised voices, we pray that it will stop.
Work on the meaning of “united” in the United States of America. It is not the middle that is tearing apart the fabric of our country, but two equally opposing extremes, neither of whom truly cares about their fellow citizen. There should only be one ideology behind all political stances and that is to do what is best for the American people to thrive.
Put politics into the background where it belongs. Politicians may think they are rockstars, with their celebrity support, but they are not. Neither are they actors on a stage. Put the American people on the stage and work behind the scene to see that our lives run as smoothly and safely as possible.
Start mingling with real people. It might feel great to bathe in the limelight of an actor who, by profession, has spent their life pretending to be someone other than themselves, but the personal attention of entertainers, millionaires and billionaires is not in America’s best interest. Befriending the rich, the powerful and the socially connected should be your last concern.
Bring back civilized dialogue. When passions rule the world; anarchy prevails. Learn again the meaning of patience. To be genteel is not to be weak, but to show control. Recall that English is an excellent language for which to communicate, and put the vulgarity aside; it serves no purpose in a learned society. There are adequate words in a dictionary or thesaurus for communicating clearly without resorting to coarse language.
Make America safe again. Law and Order are for our protection and should not be toyed with to conform to radical ideologies that have never been proven. Police, lawyers and the judicial system will never be perfect, and there is always room for betterment, but the foundation has a long history of success. If we continue to demonize Order and disrespect the Law, we will end up taking matters into our own hands when crisis erupts at our front door.
Surround yourself with trusted people. One aspect that the famous disdain is that they do not know if a person likes them for themselves, or because of their status. Surround yourself with family and friends who will look out for you, first and foremost. Power can corrupt a person, but it can also corrupt those in your inner circle. Keep questionable people at a distance.
Becoming the President of the United States is to become the parent of hundreds of millions of ordinary people. Step up to the plate and act like an adult. There are already too many juveniles running the world.
God will bless America, when America blesses God.
