60 Years Since "The Speech"
From May 30th to June 2nd, 1980, St. John Paul the Great visited France. He was the first pope to do so since 1814. He not only visited Paris but also Lisieux and met the Carmelites. He focused his visit on the clergy and youth in the beloved country that once was the first
While there, he delivered this prophetic message:
“Catholics from France! Be proud of your faith, the gift of the Holy Spirit that the Father has given to you! Give the Church and the world an example of your reliable fidelity and missionary zeal! … We must not forget the very great contribution of the Church and French Catholicism to missionary ministry and Christian culture. We cannot accept that these chapters are closed! … Notre-Dame is a historic place, a sacred place. Here we meet the genius of France, a genius which was expressed in the architecture of this church eight centuries ago and which is always present to bear witness to man! … France, the eldest daughter of the Church, are you faithful to the promises of your baptism? France, daughter of the Church and the teacher of the peoples, are you faithful, for the sake of man, an alliance with eternal wisdom?”
This will resonate after the sacrilege event that took place in Paris during the opening of the Summer Olympics. A group of drag queens have mocked the Last Supper. The organizers, led by Thomas Jolly, gave an empty and insincere apology for their actions claiming that it was using Roman mythology, yet Catholics knew that it was an attack on something Jesus instituted to the world nearly 2000 years ago.
For the last several years, France has been under siege from within. It has opened its borders to migrants from Islamic countries that are ransacking, raping, and pillaging the City of Lights. Sadly, it even disrupted the public train system causing delays.
Following the events of July 26th, Paris went through a near-total blackout. The only place that remained lit was the Church of Reparation or formally Sacre-Coeur Basilica. It is there that 140 years of constant prayer. An eyewitness said that the Sacre Heart statue could be seen from a distance. It goes to show that Jesus’ Sacre Heart will triumph over the darkness.
It is time for France to turn back to God with a contrite heart. Those who have allowed this attack.
Let us make reparations for what the country has done to the Catholic faith.
