Dystopia or Utopia
State of the Union
When presidents wallow in intrigue, vitreous statements and moral injustice they are examples of scandalous evil. Their words are meaningless, and untrustworthy. When bending the rule of law in their own favor it will eventually boomerang back to them. Everyone knows about the rigged election and the expenditure of millions of taxpayer dollars to attack a political opponent’s reputation in the courts. Wasting our taxpayers’ dollars and the time of judges and prosecutors who could be attending to real criminals. The people know that security has been withheld from notable figures resulting in an attempted assassination condoned at the highest level. The press still follows the party line without doing independent investigative reporting to ferret out the truth and expose hypocrisy.
Joe-citizen sits on his couch yelling at the TV but does not raise his voice to defend his country, it's constitution or rule of law. Bad things happen when good people do nothing. American patriots in every generation have stood up for our Republic and have not looked away when top leadership broke the law. The US is falling apart while citizens keep playing their fiddles as the Titanic sinks further toward communism. The evils that rampage among us are greater than at any time in our history. There's a greater need to unite than in any generation past. “Unity is not the absence of disagreement but a consensus to work together” (Ian Traill) In spite of our differences, when the ship is sinking, we don't wait for someone else to bail water or argue over what methods to use, we just do it! It is the nature of being a citizen of the USA that we are all differen.t It is our essential makeup since post-colonial times.” We must learn to work together or perish as fools” said Martin Luther King Jr.
Americans are not fools yet we can fool ourselves sometimes. Every citizen matters, the ones in the gutter are no less valuable than the ones on Nob Hill. Color, language, race, customs. religion all constitutes our uniqueness. None is superior to the other. This is not the land of kings and commoners but a country where truth and justice should prevail for everyone, even if we don't like them! What we need is to restore our sense of unity, to stand against the diabolical invasion of godless men and women and godless philosophies. It is in our differences that we are strong because the very differences provide a multitude of talents and skills available for the common good. We would be weaker if we were all the same,” Individually we are just a drop but together we are an ocean.” (Ryunosule Satore) That’s a powerful thing.
At the Last Supper Jesus prayed that we all may be one (John 17: 21-23) so that we could be divided from the evil one. That is the will of God, to be divided from Satan. No religion preaches division or disunity, all persons of goodwill recognize the value of being united on the important issues. All life is sacred. Lying, stealing, violence, corruption, and deception all foster disunity and distrust. These are never from God.
Whatever your spiritual truth may be, unity is a unifying factor. The one thing anyone can do is praying for unity. Starting in our families, our neighborhood and cities etc. Peace begins at home in how we speak to one another and how we show respect to everyone. We can all start small. We can all support organizations that try to move our communities to work together for the common good. If we could be more like little children and regard those who look or speak differently from ourselves as something interesting to get to know better and to create friendships. Children don't see color. Adults teach them to distrust and despise or to love and respect. It is time to listen to what Jesus commanded, not suggested, love one another as I have loved you. No exceptions. No exceptions of race, creed, sexual orientation, or color. No exceptions. Love doesn't mean they become your best friend, but it does mean respecting everyone. To be kind, polite, and civil to all. Manners need to return to the public forum. Manners are basic human virtues at the lowest common denominator in society.
As Christians we hopefully practice these basic virtues toward our neighbor because Jesus told us that what we do to others he sees as being done to himself. Consider then how much abuse is thrown at the Son of God daily, every curse word, every hand raised to another, every insult, humiliation, mockery, cuss word, bullying, abandonment or murder. Jesus takes it all personally. How many times a day his holy name is used as a cuss word, and we say nothing.
As a country and as a Church we must pray for peace with a vengeance. Daily the rosary and the holy mass are our strongest weapons against the evils of this world. Pray alone or pray with others. If we cannot pull together in our homes and our local communities to live in greater harmony, how can we expect it of the larger community. All people want to be loved and respected and we should be a stellar example of both.
When political candidates come to your town, be sure to ask about their plan for political and civil unity. We need to return to being a nation under God and expel the divisions and narcissism evident in the political arena. Once the president is elected it is the duty of politicians from both parties to work together across the aisle for the common good not just for their own constituency or personal aggrandizement. The state of the union is an embarrassment to all Americans, but we can rise from the swamp and restore the beauty of our Democratic Republic if we work together.
“One nation indivisible under God” we say in the Pledge of Allegiance.
