A Salute to Common Sense
Eileen Renders
This is a topic that could trigger many different answers, ranging from simple logic all the way to complex alternative options pertaining to a particular set of circumstances. An Intelligence Quotient Test is often composed of many logical configurations and questions. All of which, begs the question of whether common sense is “a-given” or a quality we can learn.
There has always been a question I have asked myself whenever I was required to make a decision in the workplace. The question I pose to myself in the workplace has always been; “Will this decision or choice I make be beneficial to all concerned?” In my personal life, I would lean toward asking myself; “What would God want me to do?” Yet it became quite clear to me, regardless of where, or which kind of decision I would make, those two answers that always took precedence in my mind leading me toward a resolution, were answers that were both compatible with the other.
My resolve has been that these answers were always the best thoughts that led me toward the best decisions I could make because they were done in essence in asking God to lead me, and with respect for all concerned.
It is clear that those who cheat, lie, or have selfish motives when making important decisions in life or the workplace will have negative results. This thinking has reinforced in me a positive habit of going to God whenever I need guidance.
We all know it is not good common sense to try to run across the Street whenever there is a speeding car headed our way. However, it is so comforting and joyous to know that God is always there for us, and truly wants to be a part of our everyday lives. Needless to say, God will never guide us down a negative path toward revenge, self-satisfaction, or anything negative. Although following God does bring Him joy as it would any father, God also wants to ensure our passage into heaven.
