As we approach Holy Week just days away for us to ponder
Is it Good Sense to pray for the enemies of America in 2024?
For most people, especially those who have been trampled down in cities that are on the edge of destruction, their answer would be an astounding no. Who are these people that have no hope and seem to live under bridges because of no work, no direction, and no one to look to for help? They might be your own children or parents that have reached a point of despair.
Watching the news can be a very negative view of America in some of the major cities. New York City, San Francisco, Philadelphia, to name a few as we look at tent cities covering their streets. The governor of California just recently (as of the time of this writing) has proposed eliminating these tenets of ugliness from the streets. Where will they send these helpless to live, sleep, or even subsist in the most pitiful manner? Who have their enemies become?
I wrote one time that the greatest evil confronting any nation is poverty. Within that empty array of hopelessness lies robbery, drug proliferation, murder, sexual abuse, and so many more scenarios against a normal society. Without work and the ability of people willing to achieve a successful life, the government must keep the unworthy gift of allowing able people to sit and collect welfare checks. For some who may be saddled with chronic disabilities that cannot work, yes for them out of charity. Otherwise, officials who are elected to handle any crisis in their domain must allow people to work and establish their own future by their self-reliance.
Since the Biden Administration took over governing this nation we have seen every type of free give me’s and opening the borders to our nation for anyone who wants in to come at their free-will. How many of these immigrants are now being given five star hotels as a home while our own citizens struggle to get unemployment subsistence.
President Joe Biden, prior Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, vice-president Kamala Harris, and others have become the enemies of freedoms that wreak of Marxism which will destroy this nation. Are these the souls we should pray for?
Reading the Sacred Scriptures and absorbing the words from Jesus places our attentiveness to his commands on a slippery table. Yet, if God would have said NO to the humans that refused to listen to his Son’s words, we would all be facing an eternity without hope.
We all are in the crosshairs of divine forgiveness and our own acceptance of what an enemy has perpetrated upon all of us. “You have heard that it was said , “You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes the sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.” (Mt 5: 43 - 45).
Remind ourselves of the theme of the Crucifixion! Jesus died for all humanity who turned against God and all deserved eternal death. Were it not for God’s Mercy we all would remain as his enemies. Pray for those who are destroying our nation? Yes, otherwise God won’t forgive us.
