The Case for Christendom
You've heard the historical warning that begins, "First they came for the Jews..." Well, as Catholics we weren't far behind in the oppression sweepstakes referenced. That's why it's so important we, and other Americans, understand what is happening to one of our major political parties.
In Germany in the 1920s and 30s the world saw the rise of the National Socialist Workers Party, the NSDAP. It was led by an Austrian, a former German Army corporal with delusional dreams of evil and revenge. I don't have to go into further detail, as I'll assume you have a rudimentary knowledge of history.
If we define that political movement as both socialist, part of its title, and as pretending to represent workers, also in the title, we have an interesting historical parallel. Throw in the antisemitism which was the motivating force of the political cancer Winston Churchill referred to as the "Narrrrzees" and we have a repulsive trifecta that today is evident in the Democrat Party. Oh yeah, and the authoritarianism.
Over the top, you say? Partisan hyperbole? A hackneyed straw man? Let's break it down, shall we?
With leaders, including their veep nominee, opening praising socialism, their self definition of their own party is obvious. With many elected leaders, and even more rank and file party workers, doubling as members of the Democratic Socialists of America, rather a contradiction in terms there, the adherence to socialism of the Democrats is open and on display for anyone who will not turn away.
As per workers, it is not hard to see that working class Americans have turned away from the Democrats in droves. But the Democrats want to still pretend to represent blue collar Americans. So, like their NSDAP predecessors, they mouth tired platitudes about working families while actually carrying water for Hollywood millionaires, white collar unions, and the lawyer class. As their German ideological ancestors kowtowed to Krupp, the Democrats bend the knee to the aforementioned lobbies and any and all grievance groups who will pit Americans against Americans.
Another facet that is sadly reminiscent of those Germans is the authoritarian impulse of modern Democrats. From the Orwellian concept of hate speech to lawfare, Democrats do not like opposition to any aspect of their lust for raw power. Free speech? Not if it offends a Democrat. Fair elections? Not if a Democrat can lose. Opposition candidates? Get government prosecutors to put them in jail and off the campaign trail.
And the antisemitism? The place of honor of people like Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar in that party speaks volumes. The recent veto by them of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro as their veep nominee is instructive as to their attitude to people of the Jewish faith. But wait, you say, what about Schumer and Sanders, both Jewish and both Dem leaders?
In the German regime we reference, in the death camps, there were Jews who helped the camp authorities in order to save their own lives. They betrayed other Jews by committing acts like ripping the gold filings out of the teeth of corpses. These traitors were called kapos. Schumer and Sanders, call your office.
It is tragic to witness the descent of the party of Harry Truman into a grotesque caricature of its former self. But we cannot turn away from reality because it is too ugly or even too far-fetched, if the facts confirm our worst fears. The once proud Democrats have become an antisemitic socialist monstrosity, their basic authoritarian impulse quite evident. We ignore this at our own peril.
