Mary
The more I read about this amazing woman/Saint, the more I kept wishing I was her best friend. I think we would have gotten along so well. She was born of humble means, yet triumphed because of her beloved son Constantine, who became emperor and vindicated her name and status after he had become royalty.
But that's not what fascinated me about this precious human being. It is the fact of her quest to know Jesus and everything about Him. She traveled in her '80s, to find the true cross of Jesus, and bring it back with her to be placed in honor and dedication of our Lord. The very cross that He was crucified on. She found it. Along with the nails and Pilates wooden inscription that hung above our Lord on the cross. She established and had churches built over the places in Bethlehem where Jesus was born and traveled to the garden of Gethsemane and had erected pilgrim stops for people to pray in.
Her life was a gift to all of us as we now have actuality in the very places that are so significant to our faith and beliefs.
Nothing could stop her from furthering devotion to a man/ God who saved the world. A quest, that in her time was considered to be only a manly feat to accomplish. But here, an aging woman's quest, so bold and completely led by the heavens, once again, proved to be sealed with God's promise that the truth has set us free. Thank you Saint Helen, I love you. Pray for us as we journey on the seas to heaven.
