Not what I do, but why I do!
Under no circumstances will God reject us!
Listen to the prophets of Old and count the times God had rejected them. Even when the Israelites turned against the Lord for the last time and God removed himself from them he still would return his grace.
“If we acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from every wrongdoing.”(1 Jn 1: 9).
“It is I, I who wipe out, for my own sake, your; your offenses I remember no more.” (Is 43: 25).
Praise of Divine Goodness: “Bless the Lord, my soul; all my being, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, my soul; do not forget all the gifts of God, who pardons all your sins , heals all your sins, heals all your ills, delivers your life from the pit, surrounds you with love and compassion, fills your days with good things; your youth is renewed like an eagle’s.” (Ps 103: 1 - 5).
It isn’t a matter of thinking that God only forgives those who are righteous or without too great of blemishes on their soul. It is for each human that has been created in his image; that includes you and me. The old adage that says; “I know God forgives me, I can’t forgive myself.” When I ministered to recovering addicts in Texas and Pittsburgh that seemed to be the common response from almost all of these people. This no doubt came from the guilt and shame that they felt even though trying to convince them they weren't great sinners as much as great weakened people who somehow had an addiction that even experts are attempting to uncover to its hold on people.
Acceptance from each of us as to how often and without judgment from God is there for anyone of us who fails and needs a helping hand to raise us up. That is the only criterion that is necessary. “No, in all these things we conquer overwhelmingly through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, principalities, nor present things, nor future things, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom 8: 37 - 39).
To keep an open heart and mind in believing that Christ lived/died/rose from the dead was for one purpose alone. Of all the theological premises we might hear about, this is the only one that makes a difference for our salvation.
A rejection by God can only be not believing he neither can nor will forgive us for sin is the ultimate judgment we put upon ourselves; not God’s choice. The rejection is part and parcel ours to make.
