HUMILITY ~ ~ WHAT IS IT? HOW CAN WE ATTAIN IT
Being “On Hold” As We Await Jesus’ Response
Eileen Renders
We often go to Jesus with our questions and His guidance for addressing our immediate concerns. We trust in Him, and He is the way, the truth, and the Light. How do we handle our concerns and decisions when we are not feeling God’s guidance? We have prayed, slept on it, and still feel no guidance, no answer to our prayers. Where are we to go, what is our next step?
All we can do is practice patience and do nothing. God cannot be at everyone’s disposal anytime we call on Him. How many times have we heard it said; “All in God’s time?” Patience is not always easy to come by for us humans. However, making important decisions in haste can become regretful choices, and most of us have learned that lesson.
Maybe the timing to act upon a situation is not right just now, and maybe if we wait and trust in God, we will awaken one morning and know in our hearts exactly what is the right choice for us to act upon. Trust and patience can often be a test from God. Just as Jesus surrendered to the will of His Father in heaven to be born and take the form of man, and be tortured, ridiculed, and nailed to a Cross, we in smaller ways, must also learn to be obedient, submissive, and faithful to God as we await His guidance.
Humility requires all of us, to know that it is He, and not “we” who is the Creator and Ruler of the world He created, including all the creatures that inhabit the world. Oftentimes, what we want is not what God wants for us. Patience is a virtue, it is also true that obedience is a virtue, it is a submission to His will.
God knows all, hears all, and sees all, we will be led when we practice the necessary virtues. Patience is best accompanied by trust. Trusting that God will lead us to where we should be, and what He wants us to be doing will increase our patience in waiting on God’s plan for us.
