We Christians are set upon. We are having our values and freedoms diminished and taken away. Once we were a country ‘Under God”; once we were a republic “Of the People, By the People and For the People”. No more is this the case. It is the time for Christians to take back this country.
The juxtaposition of morals in society is an affront to the teachings of Our Lord. We are asked to go beyond condoning immoral activity; we are asked to accept it as normal or proper. Catholics cannot let this happen. The new mores of society are contrary to the very core of our beliefs.
Clergy for the most remain silent on these aberrations. And when they do speak it is without courage or conviction of faith. Witness the blasphemy and onerous situation at the Democratic National Convention. The DNC has been described as a” deeply anti-life, anti-family event." This is the gathering where Planned Parenthood parked a truck and performed 25 abortions during the convention.
There the cardinal of the Chicago Archdiocese took the stage to address the assembly of a political party with a so-called opening prayer calling upon some vague diety to bless an assembly that stands fully at odds with Catholic doctrine. The speech by Cardinal Cupich was without precedent in that it acquiesced to and seemingly condoned and endorsed a party at odds with Christianity. Nor did he take this opportunity plead for mercy for the babies being slaughtered or promote any sort of human values. He hid his Crucifix in his jacket pocket. He refused to mention Jesus' name. Well, if he doesn’t work for Jesus who does he work for ?
This speech - it was no manner an invocation - comes at a time when clergy should step up. Instead the cardinal chose to succumb. All in all a very sad, bizarre and disconcerting display of a total disregard of Catholic principles. The motivation for this corruption cannot be fathomed and can only be addressed by prayer for some sort repentance. This is a total affront to the Catholic Congregation by a leader charged with the protection of the Faith
We must do as Christ instructed and maintain His Church. And we must enlist the clergy to help and lead us. It is our hope that more clergy will come forward so that the sanctity of the Church can be preserved and the forces of evil addressed and contended with.
We cannot be complacent or remain silent or we shall lose to the forces waiting and willing to demean and destroy Christian values. This will take a great deal of courage and strength. The silence we once held can be no longer. In the movie A Man for All Seasons there is a scene where the Duke of Norfolk asks Thomas More to sign an oath from King Henry VIII. This oath basically makes Henry the head of the Church and St. Thomas will not sign it. The Duke knows that this refusal places Thomas in great jeopardy and asks Thomas to disregard his objections and “go along for fellowship”. Thomas More replies: ‘And when we die, and you are sent to heaven for doing your conscience, and I am sent to hell for not doing mine, will you come with me, for fellowship’ ? So we need to examine what is offered by the fellowship that society offers and weigh this against the ultimate harm.
Some Church leaders like Bishop Strickland have spoke out only to be silenced. These vouces must be heard and listened to if we are to endure and preserve the Church.
The regime we are under cannot be allowed to interfere in our lives to the point that our souls are in jeopardy. 1 Samuel 8:18: "And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the Lord will not answer you in that day."
We are told that deviation from the norm is now the norm. Not true. Aberrant behavior is aberrant behavior whether sanctioned or decried. Christians must endure and remain steadfast. It is true that people with opposing views are selfish in their concerns. All we can do is hope the Lord will let them one day find the right road.
