Why
An erotic dance caused John’s demise
Religious he was and truly wise
His death anguished his captor
But Herod was blinded by the wife of his brother
Not even legally divorced she caused this tumult
The beheading of John the last prophet
Elijah the crowds said John was
But he is actually the cousin of Jesus
So today we honor the death of Saint John the Baptist
He who had no problem being the least amongst us
Amen
