Remembering Flannery O’Connor’s Entry into Heaven
The countdown is on for the fifth annual Life Awards Gala hosted by Live Action. The event honors pro-lifers who have advocated for life in their profession. This year’s gala speaker is Michael Knowles. He is the celebrated host of “The Michael Knowles Show” at the Daily Wire and “The Book Club” at Prager U. He is also the author of the best-selling book “Speechless: Controlling Words, Controlling Minds.”
The headliner of the three award recipients is NFL Coach Jim Harbaugh. After nine seasons coaching Michigan to a record 86-25 and a national title, Harbaugh has recently returned to coaching in the NFL. He is currently set to coach the Chargers this upcoming season.
As Live Action states, “Jim and his wife, Sarah, have seven children and have made it their mission to speak up for the pro-life cause. “Let the unborn be born” is a refrain used consistently by Harbaugh throughout his career, preaching the importance of choosing life to his young teammates – even going as far as offering to adopt a child if an unplanned pregnancy occurred. In the world of media and sports, Harbaugh has been a true light in the darkness, inspiring others to see the beauty of life in the womb.”
In addition to Coach Harbaugh, there will be two recipients for the dinner who will be honored for their commitment to cultivating the pro-life message in our culture. Those advocates are Steventhen Holland and Joan Bell.
Steventhen Holland is an author, recording artist, and passionate worship leader, who survived against the odds. He conceived in a gang rape of his mentally challenged mother and survived an abortion. He was placed in foster care and then adopted. After 27 years, Steventhen was miraculously reunited with his birth mother. Now, he spends his life sharing his message of resilience and HOPE rooted in the Gospel by performing and speaking at events nationwide. He continues to be ruthless in his efforts to promote adoption and foster care.
For over half a century, Joan Bell has dedicated her life to protecting the pre-born and restoring their fundamental human rights. Engaging in non-violent direct intervention at killing centers since 1978, she's been arrested over 200 times in the rescue movement. With more than 6 years spent in jails and prisons, she's steadfastly pursued her mission to stop abortion. In addition to her non-violent direct interventions, she and her husband Chris run Good Counsel Home in eleven states since 1985. Unfortunately, she is serving a sentence for her recent peaceful intervention. Mary Wagner will accept the award on her behalf.
