Pray for your enemies
Death can come, as we all know, at any time. It does not matter how old you are or how wealthy you think you are or how healthy you think you are. It is the state of our souls that should concern us the most. How the measuring instrument of how much good or bad was done by us during our lives, that we chose at that moment.. God in His Almighty and eternal judgment deems our souls to the place "we" have chosen by our actions and repentance of our lives while on Earth, our imitation of Christ, while on Earth, will determine our destination after we have died. We may think in our simple minds that we were pretty obedient and pretty good in life, but oh! The purity of God's omnipotence has high, very high expectations of our intent. Was that giving for a tax break? Was that smile genuine? Did we invoke the guidance of the heavens while we prayed in such sorrow and worry? Or did we just expect God to forget about our past behavior without our true repentance? We are not worthy for Him to come under our roofs. Only if He says the word.
No one is perfect and He knows that. But He does, I believe, expect us to be faithful to Him and follow His commandments. The word " command" tells us who is in charge.
Faithfulness and loyalty reaps great rewards for us. Especially at the time of death. All of our endeavors, all of our choices, all true sorrow for our sins, will be judged by the one and true God Himself. The file cabinet on our lives will be opened and read as we stand their speechless watching our past fly before our own eyes. We ask for the mercy of God to be with us and keep trying every day, in the hopes that every little act of kindness and peacemaking, a true contrition will be accepted by Him so that the words we pray "I dread the loss of Heaven and the terrible pains of hell" will ring true for our souls while we are on Earth and our destination when we come face to face with our Lord.
Jesus, triumphed over death on the cross and has given us the tools we need to triumph over deaths mighty sting. Let us continue to fight the good fight and always remember that this life is only a stepping stone to our true home in Heaven.
