Setting Captives Free
"You can't make a difference if you can't pay your rent."
I heard those words come out of a woman's mouth during a speaking competition and - to my amazement - the entire rest of the room applauded the statement. They called it, "SO true." Some called it, "Wisdom."
I was born with the initials B.S., though, and I smelled plenty of it coming off that statement. That's the most limiting belief I'd ever heard.
Later, as the woman and I rode back together to my hotel, I confronted her on this. "Jesus made a difference and he didn't have a home of his own."
Her response? "Jesus is God. That's different."
I told her, "A homeless person can make a difference."
She argued, "Not a headline-worthy difference."
I countered, "If a homeless person rushes into a burning building and saves a child's life - that's a headline-worthy difference."
She didn't have an answer for that.
There is no limit to our ability to make a difference. We can't let our bank balance dictate our destiny.
Suicide survivors have said that all it would have taken for them to change their mind and not make the attempt was someone to NOTICE them and give them a smile, or take a moment's time with them.
We have no idea whose life we may be saving just by taking a moment's time with a stranger, noticing them, and giving them a smile or an encouraging word.
We are all capable of making a difference right where we are with what we have. It's only a matter of making a conscious decision to do what we can where we can.
I'm going to make a bold statement: I'm homeless right now. I've got little to nothing in my bank account.
But that's because I've chosen to make myself poor so that others might be enriched. I've chosen to make a difference rather than to make profits.
I offer a free course, Turning Problems into Profits, that will help you identify any problem you've ever solved in your life and turn it into a profitable business.

That same training can also be used to make a difference in other people's lives - no matter what's in your bank account right now. What you do with the training is up to you. What you prioritize in your life is up to you.
But never, ever, buy into the lie that you can't make a difference. Making a difference is what you were BORN to do. It's the reason God created you.
