Without Forgiveness we shall destroy our souls!
From Here to Eternity
An adaptation of a movie filmed in 1953 in Hawaii at the Schofield Military base. Besides being a production with a number of awards it also was a real-life scenario that most people are confronted with during their struggling to avoid failures in spiritual directions.
With that in mind we must be aware that life is not a utopia-induced program of peaches and cream. In the movie plot, but not shown for scandalous reasons, they were actually removed because of the time in social history that might have insulted movie watchers. Homosexuality between some soldiers and a pregnancy that was terminated due to a sexual disease. However, these are only two real-life instances that confront all of us in 2024.
None of us is able to close the pages of society’s failures on our way to meet Christ in eternity. The failures of humanity, due to sin, cannot be covered as if they don’t exist, as in the movie. Then the Lord said, “The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great, and their sin so grave, that I must go down and see whether or not their actions fully correspond to the cry against them that comes to me. I mean to find out.” (Gn 18: 20 -21).
According the the footnote on the above numbers; the present account of the Yahwist, the sin of Sodom was homosexuality which is therefore known as sodomy; but according to Isaiah, it was a lack of social justice; Ezekiel described it as a disregard for the poor, whereas Jeremiah saw it as general immorality. From Jeremiah: But among Jerusalem’s prophets I saw deeds still more shocking: Adultery, living in lies, siding with the wicked, so that no one turns from evil. To me they are all like Sodom, its citizens like Gomorrah. (Jer 23: 14). This was an explanation of the False Prophets which also is prevalent in 2024.
“The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. They do not choose their homosexual condition; for most of them it is a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.” (CCC 2358).
We find the promotion from some preachers to disrespect people who are homosexual and shun their very presence is immoral in itself. We must remember, that homosexual acts are sinful as much as racial bias towards people different from ourselves. All sin is an offense against God. Is there one sin that God hates over the rest? No! Christ became Incarnate, suffered and died for all sinners without any deviation from what anyone committed. Sin was destroyed with the shedding of his Blood and we all should bow our heads in humility for this love God gave us.
Presumption from people who do not fail in their moral choices are hard to find. In fact if there are any out there, please let the world know that you belong on a different planet with a different god who accepts your willingness to condemn anyone different from you.
From Here to Eternity sets the premise of evil intent that exists within the hearts of men and women with only one method of turning back to God; It happened on Calvary and we should never forget that.
