A Holy week reflection
“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch, the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore, be ye ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh”. (Matthew 24:42-44,As always, there’s more, but, I want you to read it on your own).
Hurricane Helene struck us at a much stronger capacity than we thought. The storm shifted, and hit us, even though we were not in the forecasted trajectory, per se. People in my area died. They met Jesus. And I have to ask…are you read to meet Jesus? Whether it be in his second coming, or your meeting with him when you die, are you ready for him?
Be prepared. One of the reasons it’s taking so long for us to get everything in order here in South Carolina, is because, I think, as a state, we weren’t prepared. We’ve had flooding and tornadoes, those we can deal with. But, the hurricanes, they expect to hit the coast.
I don’t live on the coast. I live near the intersection of the Sandhills and the Piedmont.
Even when we’ve had power outages, say, from ice storms, the electricity wasn’t out this long. We’ve had blizzards (rare in South Carolina, but not unknown), and I don’t recall the power being out this long.
We weren’t prepared. We didn’t know this was going to happen. We don’t usually get hurricanes his far inland. And, the weather told us to prepare for a Tropical Storm. We got a hurricane instead. Hopefully, by the time this is published, our electricity will be back on, and we’ll have hot water.
Instead of asking “How could a loving God do X”? How about asking, “What should I be doing for God”? Well, how about what God’s word tells you?
“For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.”(Matthew 12:50)
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves”.(James 1:22)
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10, because so many people quote Ephesians 2:8-9 WITHOUT giving the context, PLEASE STOP).
Jesus is coming, are you ready?
