“My Heart is Moved with Pity for the Crowd.”
“So, I have been assigned months of misery, and troubled nights have been allotted to me.... Remember that my life is like the wind; I shall not see happiness again.” Job: 7
The story of Job in the Bible is one of heartbreak, sorrow and devastation. He had everything taken from him including all his children. He was brokenhearted and so discouraged. He had every right to curse God and give up his faith in God. Even though Job was so totally sorrowful and devastated, he never gave up his faith.
Job's faith was tested to the bone. I can learn something from Job. Even though God allowed the Evil One to destroy everything and everybody in Job's life, he still believed and trusted in God. When heartbreak, sorrow and so many challenges occur in my life, I ask Job to help me to stay faithful and I repeat what Job said, “Though he slayed me, yet will I trust in him.” Job 15:13
God seen the faithfulness of Job. God restored his land and riches and gave him many more children. I want to be a faithful servant like Job and not falter on the way. I ask for faith like Job especially when heartbreak and challenges enter my life.
My greatest defense against discouragement is to praise God. When I praise God in the midst of challenges, it changes my attitude from gloom and doom to a hopeful assurance that God will take care of me and my family.
Reflection:
“Praise the Lord for he is good; sing praise to our God for he is gracious; it is fitting to praise him...He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.... The Lord sustains the lowly; the wicked he casts to the ground.” Psalm 147
