Vacation from Work, Not God
The plethora of lies told by those who support abortion, a form of murder and an example of idolatry of self, should be enough to tell us it is a product of the evil one and that there is nothing good about it. All other sins pale in comparison. It can never be supported by any true Christian.
The culture of death, of which abortion is a major part, is built on a tower of lies, one upon the other. It is also a culture of selfishness, hatred, and, especially, murder. Jesus told us how to identify people like this in the Gospel of John: “You belong to your father the devil and you willingly carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks in character, because he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44) Murder and lies. That’s how we know abortion is from the devil. Abortion is murder and it is protected and encouraged through lies.
The lies are so insidious that even whenever something occurs that might put a bad light on abortion, it gets lied about. The lies began when the purveyors of death claimed that their goal was to make abortion safe and rare. Many fell for that, but looking at where organizations like Planned Parenthood began makes the lie obvious. Beginning with the American Birth Control League, Planned Parenthood grew out of the mind of Margaret Sanger whose goal in life was to rid the country of blacks. “Later called social biology, genetics, and population control, eugenics was a “scientific” endeavor born from evolutionary biology.” “Throughout its existence Planned Parenthood has been a key tool to reduce or eliminate births among blacks, other minorities and the disabled.” (Rebecca Messall, Human Life Review, Spring 2010, Margaret Sanger and the Eugenics Movement)
Euphemisms abound in the culture of death. Look at how the terminology keeps changing, not only to be more persuasive but most importantly to hide the true meaning of the message. Take the case of euthanasia or self-murder (assisted suicide), for example. “As a matter of fact, the term “assisted suicide” is replaced by “aid-in-dying,” a “catch-all phrase” that advocates have “favored for years,” because, as it was with the legalization of abortion, to get a deadly law passed it must be couched in euphemisms.” (Maria McFadden, Human Life Review, Spring 2010) As its definition shows, the term euphemism is another word for “lie” or a convenient untruth. (“Euphemism: the substitution of a mild, indirect, or vague expression for one thought to be offensive, harsh, or blunt.” Dictionary.com)
Women are told that abortion means freedom, another lie. During the 2022 March for Life I heard the witness of a woman who had been pressured to have an abortion in her youth. She listed the lies that she was told throughout the process of getting an abortion. Despite being told that she would recover and heal, she is still suffering. She cannot bear children, and she suffers the pain of no children, no grandchildren and the loss of the love she failed to give and as a result does not experience herself. This poor woman is still enslaved by that abortion. Similar stories abound.
Some try to claim that the bible supports abortion or that Christian opposition to abortion is something new. This flies in the face of the God of the bible being the Creator. The Didache, a first century Christian teaching document, prohibited abortion.
“God did not make death,
nor does he rejoice in the destruction of the living.” Wisdom 1:13
Another lie is that abortion is pro-women. Aside from the women who are damaged or even killed by undergoing an abortion, more girls than boys are aborted. How is that pro-women? And then there are all the old lies about it just being a blob of tissue or a parasite on the women’s health. Think about the phrase they like to toss around, “reproductive freedom.” They claim pro-lifers are denying them reproductive freedom. Pro-lifers have nothing against reproductive freedom. What we object to is the careless unabashed willingness to kill innocent human beings. But that might require one to accept the biological science that at fertilization a new, unique human comes into being; a baby. Because once a woman becomes pregnant, reproduction has already occurred.
Along with the lie that abortion is necessary for women to have meaningful lives, a recent one is torturing women with “forced childbirth.” Everyone (well maybe not everyone) knows that the only form of birth control that works 100% of the time is abstinence from sex (when was the last time you heard that phrase?). All other forms of birth control have varying degrees of success. Now these women engaged in consensual sex (except for the rare occasion of a child conceived in rape or incest) and whatever birth control program they were on “failed,” and so they are now being “tortured” by being prohibited from killing this new, unique, distinct from the mother, human child they have conceived. Science has proven decades ago (and common sense tells us) that a unique human is created at the moment of conception.
During the debate between Harris and Trump the vice president tried to insist that late term abortions do not occur when Trump cited incidents of third trimester abortions. The biased moderators did not fact check her lie (they are liars, too) but in truth there are thousands of late term abortions each year. Even the NY Times owned up to that fact.
Other lies include: you’ll recover without problems, it’s an act of love, it’s not murder, it’s your right (to kill your innocent child). Abortion is anything BUT an act of love. Love involves sacrifice. How can murdering one’s baby be an act of love? An act of love would be to carry the baby to term (which is healthier for the mother than an abortion, and less dangerous) and give it up for adoption. There are more people waiting to adopt than there are children being aborted each year. The only love involved in abortion is the love of self to the exclusion of others, thus making an idol of yourself, in violation of the first Commandment.
Another of the most dangerous lies is that the abortion pill is easy, painless, and effective. They continue to hide the number of women who have been harmed or even have died from taking this “medication.” And recently, when women died from complications from the abortion pill, they tried to blame it on pro-life laws rather than the pill and the failure of emergency medicine. Dr. Christina Francis, an OB-GYN, along with several doctors from the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, testified that pro-abortion misinformation, not pro-life laws, is responsible for “dangerous” delays in women receiving emergency care.
Yet, this travesty of killing our children and our future continues and even gets celebrated. It’s big money, and money means a lot to politicians, who use it to gain and remain in power. The abortion industry has deep pockets, and all of that monetary support goes a long way to silencing one’s conscience (assuming they have one).
People’s consciences need to be stimulated to do what’s right. Doing what’s right in the face of adversity is a virtue, but then, the elites are bent on killing virtue as it would make them face up to principles of humanity.
What is so hard to come to grips with, especially for pro-lifers, is how comfortable people are with the concept of killing other human beings.
Yet, believe it or not, there are a lot of people who call themselves Christians (and even Catholics) who not only believe that abortion is OK, but avidly promote it.
If you are truly following God, then you have to recognize that God is THE Creator. He created man in His image and likeness, even the disabled and malformed. Abortion is an act of destruction, not creation.
Jesus’s caution us, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” (Mt 7:15) Anyone who preaches such destruction (and tries to justify it by the Word of God) is a liar and acts in opposition to God and Jesus, His Son, and is working in concert with Satan, the great deceiver.
The lie of calling oneself pro-abortion and Christian at the same time is borne out in Jesus’s words, “Not every one who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Mt 7:21) Pope John Paul II wrote, in his exhortation, Christifideles Laici, “Above all, the common outcry, which is justly made on behalf of human rights-for example, the right to health, to home, to work, to family, to culture - is false and illusory if the right to life, the most basic and fundamental right and the condition for all other personal rights, is not defended with maximum determination.”
“Moral principles do not depend on a majority vote. Wrong is wrong, even if everybody is wrong. Right is right, even if nobody is right.” Fulton J. Sheen
“Abortion and racism stem from the same poisonous root, selfishness.” Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King, Jr.
“It is hard to imagine these explanations convincing even those making them. Could so many people—even those with a strong interest in believing convenient untruths, people profiting personally, politically, or professionally from abortion—really persuade themselves of such rationalizations just to make what occurs in abortion on demand more palatable?” (Ellen Wilson Fielding, Masters of Misperception, Human Life Review, Spring 2024)
“Life, especially human life, belongs only to God: for this reason whoever attacks human life, in some way attacks God himself.” Pope St. John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae, 25 March 1995
