To the Ends of the Earth: Witness – Week 4, Day 2 – Only God Can Judge the Hearts of People
So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable, what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. It is sown a physical body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a physical body, there is also a spiritual body.
1 Corinthians 15:42–44
Just as a seed planted in the soil surrenders its old life before it can burst forth from the ground as a plant, so we must surrender our old life to the new life Christ offers us. We are sown in weakness, corruptible and tending toward death. One day our bodies will become incorruptible, our sinful nature will give way to the perfection of heaven, and our weakness will be turned into eternal strength.
Every day we are being renewed through the transforming power of Christ. As we live out our Catholic Faith, we are growing into the men we will be at the resurrection. We become more and more like Jesus as we yield to the power of the resurrection in all that we are and all that we do. And we are not called simply to focus on our own transformation from weakness to strength. Our call is to share the strength of the resurrection with all we meet so that others will bring their weakness to Jesus Christ and allow him to turn it into his strength.
Questions for Reflection
What does it mean to you to share in Christ’s resurrection every day of your life?
Have you ever felt that your weakness was too much for you? Are there weaknesses in your life now that you do not see being turned into strength? How can your brothers pray for you in this?
What are two concrete ways you can focus on growing in your faith over the rest of this study, as you seek to become a mature man of God?
Praying with Scripture
This is my comfort in my affliction
that your promise gives me life. (Ps 119:50)
