What's In a Name?
His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, that through these you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of passion, and become partakers of the divine nature.
2 Peter 1:3–4
Through the resurrection, we share in the power of Jesus Christ. Because Jesus rose from the dead, we receive the saving grace that transforms us day by day. We are like seeds, not fully formed into what we will become but having all we need within us to get there. The power that raised Christ from the dead will work within us to change us from men of potential to men of actuality, from men of “not yet” to men of “well done.” God has given us all we need to live lives devoted totally to him. His promises carry us from the cradle to the grave, giving us grace and changing us into the men we are meant to be.
The seed must escape the cold, dark earth in order to break through the ground and stretch up toward the sun. We must break from the darkness of sin in our lives and reach up to the light of heaven. Grace frees us from the power of sin and enables us to become men of faith, men of action, and men of truth. As we walk the narrow path toward heaven, we know we have all of heaven to guide us, strengthen us, and grow us into better men.
