The Incarnation and the Exultation: An Advent Devotional - The Third Sunday of Advent
O the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
“For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?”
“Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?”
For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory for ever. Amen.
Romans 11:33–36
Every good gift we have, every beautiful word we speak, and every loving action we perform comes from the grace of God working itself out in our life. God desires to give us more than we could ever hope for or imagine (Eph 3:20–21) — a truth most of us cannot even begin to grasp. The truly amazing thing is that those who have learned what it means to be frail expect great things from God.
Any man who has experienced this powerful, unsearchable love in Christ has discovered the secret to eternal youth and vitality. Men who possess worldly strength are the ones who stagger and fall along the road to salvation; but those who rest in the perfect love of the Almighty Creator live their lives with youthful hope and never-failing spiritual energy. Such men know also how to share this spiritual maturity with everyone they meet. They do not place their trust in themselves, because they recognize that everything they have and are comes from God.
