Prepare. Be Ready!
Sudden Fear
By MARY OLIVIA PATIÑO
What might you think? If,
Suddenly told to leave your home?
Who would you call?
Where would you go?
How would you react?
Would you have time to pack?
What would you grab? A ‘carry-on’, a pillowcase, a shopping bag?
What would you carry close to you?
I would question “Why?”
Am I going to die?
I would be frightened, that’s for sure!
Pull out my personal ID’s, ready cash
Is there enough gas in my car?
Is my cell phone charged?
Will I need water, food, and blankets?
Grab bread and peanut butter
Yes, I would almost panic
Call my family while wondering
Do I have a clean ‘change-of-clothes'?
What can I carry? Where am I going?
Who will be there to help me?
Then, Scrolling deep memory of “CONTACTS”
I would call the One
Who is always near
Who told the fishermen: “Do not fear.”
I’d take the pink Blessed Rosary by my bed
A treasured gift from friend
It’s light, fits in my pocket
FAITH will carry me
“Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?” -Matthew 8:26
