The Sixth Commandment -Part 1
Eucharistic Miracles
Submitted by Thomas Stidl
The first miracle of the Eucharist is that Jesus is actually present with us in this most holy sacrament. This has been true since the first Last Supper meal. Catholics and Orthodox Christians call this, “ The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.” Always remember that the Mass is the un-bloody Sacrifice of Calvary.
A different type of Eucharistic miracle began occurring around 800 A.D. The Consecrated Host turned to flesh and blood. In some cases the Consecrated Host was transformed into the beating heart of Jesus. I would call that a wonderful experience for the priest celebrating that Mass. This should not shock any Catholic or Orthodox clerics or laity. We have the true presence that is the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ always in our midst.
Many Christians wonder about Christ’s next coming. This is of great importance, but we already have Jesus here right now. Frankly speaking, His next coming is every time a priest prays the words of consecration over the bread and the wine and commingles both before anyone receives Holy Communion. Before we receive Jesus in the Eucharist, we reaffirm our faith in the true presence when we answer, “Amen” to the words, “The Body of Christ”. Before I consume Jesus while walking to the altar, I pray the perfect act of contrition and an act of love that I learned as a child. Once the priest places the Sacred Host in the palm of my hand, I address the Host with the following words, “My Lord and My God, My Jesus Mercy”. This comes my heart to the holy heart of Jesus. I have just had a heart-to-heart conversation with my Savior and Lord. I make the sign of the cross and proceed back to my seat.
Now back at my seat I follow another teaching from childhood. Just remember the word, “ACTS.” Lord, I adore and worship you. Lord, I am contrite for all my sinfulness. Lord, I thank you for your presence and all the blessings that you have given me. Lord, you know all my supplications and needs; I leave them in your capable, nail-pierced hands. The first letter of adore, contrite, thank, and supplications spells the word, “ACTS”. That should be easy to remember. Do not stop talking to Jesus after this short time. Take Jesus through your entire life. Let him permeate your entire being. Share with him your joys and sorrows. He always listens. He will also have the Holy Spirit present to assist you along with His Heavenly Father. They will dine with you. You will hear tremendous advice and begin to recognize the subtle differences in their voices as they guide you through your daily life. You will also find that they have a remarkable sense of humor. I have proof of that fact. They made me didn’t they!!! Your friendship with God is the greatest gift anyone can have. Remain humble and you will be exalted beyond your wildest dreams and imagination.
Until next time, Laus Tibi, Christe. Deo Gratias. Gloria Tibi Domini. Praise be to God. See you in Paradise. Amen.
