The Fourth Commandment - Part 1
The Farmer and The Seed
Submitted by Thomas Stidl
We have all heard the parable of the Farmer and the Seed. The farmer goes into a field and begins to sew seed. Some of the seed falls on rocky ground and does not take root. I attribute that to the deafness of heart and lack of faith in the listener. Some seed falls among weeds and thistle and actually sprouts. Unfortunately, the weeds and the thistle choke the sprouts and the sprouts wither and die. In a more personal viewpoint, people accept the teachings of God, but, the cares and the lusts found in the world choke the beliefs to be doomed. Finally, some seed fell on good ground and depending on the amount of water and fertilizer in the soil yield a good crop with varying percentages. To place this on personal terms, a human believes in the teaching and depending on the time given to understand the teaching and nurturing the belief with meditation, prayer, and good works determines the yield of the crop.
Jesus also taught that the grain of wheat must fall to the ground, die, and be planted in the soil to yield a great harvest. Jesus also taught us through the explanation of the Farmer that the seed is the Word of God. And, who is this Word of God? It is Jesus himself. He taught us through parables, died on the cross, was buried in the tomb, and rose to life three days later. I hope that you can see the parallel patterns here. Jesus is both the farmer and the seed through his preaching.
Until next time, Laus Tibi, Christe. Deo Gratias. Gloria Tibi Domini. Praise be to God. See you in Paradise. Amen.
