To the Ends of the Earth: Character – Week 5, Day 2 - Warrior Poets Walk in the Sanctuary of God
The sun shall no longer be
your light by day,
nor for brightness shall the moon
give light to you by night;
but the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your God will be your glory.
Your sun shall no more go down,
nor your moon withdraw itself;
for the LORD will be your everlasting light,
and your days of mourning shall be ended.
Your people shall all be righteous;
they shall possess the land for ever,
the shoot of my planting, the work of my hands,
that I might be glorified.
Isaiah 60:19–21
We appreciate our modern world of lights and electricity the most when the power goes out. Even today, men still fear the darkness and long for the light. God promises us a day when he will be our everlasting light, when there will be no more need of the sun and moon to light the day and night. Our sense of helplessness and hopelessness will give way to the comfort and delight of an eternal day, where we will share heaven with those who believe.
By being a witness to your Catholic Faith day by day, you are revealing the glory of God to the world as he carries you from glory to glory in the working out of your salvation. So many Christians consider their greatest work to be saving souls, when in truth the greatest thing we will ever do as believers is to give glory to our Father in heaven. Our true comfort comes as we experience the manifestation of God’s great love in our lives and share that same comfort with those around us. Each soul saved is another light of comfort revealing the glory of God in this darkened world.
Questions for Reflection
Where lately have you experienced God’s comfort in your life?
In what ways has God been revealing his glory in the working out of your salvation journey?
How have you been a comfort to others this week, especially other Catholic men?
Praying with Scripture
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his likeness from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. (2 Cor 3:18)
