Starting the Year Right: Playing the Game of Virtues
The election is Tuesday, November 5th. Already reports are coming in of glitching machines, voters being turned away, ballot boxes being set on fire, and a whole host of other election-related shenanigans. Suffice it to say, there are forces out there who do not want free, fair elections decided by the American public. They want to control the outcome by any means necessary.
Our Lady can and will defeat Satan. There is no battle she cannot secure if we but call upon her for help. The same Jesus Christ who willingly moved up His timetable for salvation on her request will not be unmoved by her request for help with our elections.
Way back in Genesis, victory over Satan was promised to the woman through her seed. That promise is delivered through Mary. We can rest confident that her son will not turn a deaf ear to her requests.
Mary will never request something that goes against the Father’s will. God does will that justice be carried out and that His people be set free. Therefore, if we call upon Mary for help restoring justice and reclaiming our freedom, we can be sure she will come to our aid.
It is through Our Lady’s womb that salvation was born into this world. It is at her breasts that salvation was nourished. It is at her knees that salvation was instructed and taught to honor God. It is with her guidance that salvation was raised to adulthood and at her special request that Christ’s first public miracle was worked.
Our Lady loves you because she sees Christ in you. That image of Christ within you enflames her heart and moves her, as it moves any good mother, to sacrifice what must be sacrificed and to move what must be moved in order to come to your assistance.
No demon can stand against her and no demonic force can hold her hostage. She remains eternally united to Christ and perpetually filled with the Holy Spirit. Her heart has never belonged to anyone but God, and she remains His most obedient and faithful daughter.
There’s never been, nor will there ever be, even a morsel of her that Satan’s ever had so much as a toe hold of claim. God cleansed her of all the corruption caused by original sin at the moment of her conception, performing a genetic factory reset if you will, enabling her to devote herself fully to God’s will. And that is what she did and continues to do through all eternity.
“Give me an army saying the Rosary and I will conquer the world.” – Blessed Pope Pius IX
Hold the line. Do not give into fear. Trust in Our Lady and pray the rosary for our nation. If you feel fear about the outcome, pick up the rosary and pray. No weapon formed against Our Lady can prevail.
“The holy Rosary is a powerful weapon. Use it with confidence and you’ll be amazed at the results.” -St. Josemaria Escriva
The nice thing about the Rosary? It never runs out of ammunition or fails to hit what it aims to hit.
The Battle of Lepanto, fought in October of 1571, seemed hopeless. The fleet of Christians prepared to fight numbered just 208. The Ottomon Empire’s ships numbered at 288.
An image of the Virgin of Guadalupe which was touched to the original given by Our Lady was mounted on board the lead ship fighting on behalf of Christian Europe. Meanwhile, every Christian was ordered to pray the Rosary and the men on board the ships fighting were each given Rosaries as well.
The battle began on the morning of October 7th. The wind was against the Christian army. Before the Turks arrived on the scene, the wind changed literally 180 degrees to point the Christian ships in the right direction and fill their sails.
The fighting lasted five hours. The Christian ships emerged victorious, losing just 100 of their number while the Turks lost nearly all of theirs. Liberated from the Turkish ships were 12,000 Christian men enslaved by the Turks and forced to row their boats.
Another battle against the Turkish army won with the help of our Blessed Mother. It’s Vienna, Austria and the year is 1683. The troops are exhausted and badly outnumbered. 80,000 Christians faced off against 250,000 Turkish warriors.
King John Sobieski, Sovereign of Poland, turned to Our Lady for help, telling her, “Give us victory, and let it be your victory alone.”
Then, he marshaled his people together to pray the rosary as the battle approached. Every one of them joined in the fervent prayers for Our Lady’s help and protection. Their faith was rewarded in victory.
The year is 1815. The troops are greatly outnumbered by the British. The people gather in the chapel of the Ursuline nuns on the evening of January 7th to pray the rosary, begging Our Lady for her help. They spend the entire night in prayer before marching out to battle after celebrating Mass that next morning. Sleep deprived but determined to defend their homes, they meet the British on the battle field. By noon, the news arrives: New Orleans is saved. The British are defeated.
The tiny nation faced up against the entire fleet of the Japanese Imperial Army in World War II. The Bishop, rather than give into defeat, called upon the faithful to turn to Our Blessed Mother, promising to build a cathedral in her honor if she saved them. No one knows why, but all of a sudden and without explanation, the Japanese fleet turned around and left the island and its people alone.
On the eve of the elections, the communists seemed certain to win. Indeed, their victory celebrations could be heard throughout the streets despite the elections not being conducted yet.
As dusk fell and the streets grew dark, lights streamed out of buildings and began to cut through the darkness. Brazilian women processed, carrying candles, through the streets while praying the Rosary. What Communists took for a sure victory became a devastating defeat that following day.
As a mother, I can tell you earnestly that I will move Heaven and Earth to help my son when he is in need. And I am a flawed and too-often short-sighted woman.
Imagine what the perfect mother would do to defend and help her children in need. If you think you’ve seen a Momma Bear fighting for her cubs, you’ve not seen anything until you’ve witnessed a woman clothed with the Sun putting the Moon under her feet and commanding an army of angels to defend her children.
Trust in Our Blessed Mother. She’s our greatest hope, and we would do well to rely on her for all our needs.
