Reclaiming June from Pride Month to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
When we were younger, our parents or grandparents often told us to “Put our best foot forward” or “Put on your best face.” Those words would permeate with us when the going gets rough.
As we reflect on All Saints’ Day, we are reminded of how to become saints ourselves. Yes, we do need to put on our best face and best foot forward. At the same time, we look at the example of the many holy men and women who put their best faith forward. They strived each day to be the best version of themselves.
St. John pointed out in the Book of Revelation what was their essential goal. He wrote, “Salvation comes from our God, who is seated on the throne,
and from the Lamb." The beloved apostle foretold how God dealt with his people from generation to generation. He even wrote in his letter what we should be. “We do know that when it is revealed, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope based on him makes himself pure, as he is pure.”
We can do the same by exemplifying the Beatitudes, doing works of mercy, frequent and fervent reception of the sacraments, and being willing to chase what is to come in the next life.
Pope Benedict XVI reflects, “In the Saints, we see the victory of love over selfishness and death: we see that following Christ leads to life, eternal life, and gives meaning to the present, every moment that passes, because it is filled with love and hope. Only faith in eternal life makes us truly love history and the present, but without attachment, with the freedom of the pilgrim, who loves the earth because his heart is set on Heaven.”
The late pope wants us to triumph over the vices and the problems of the world. All because they place their faith in God.
So, if we are willing to be saints, let’s put our best faith forward. Let’s never look back but forward. Forward to being with Jesus in the Kingdom of God. Forward to being detached from the current world and more to heaven.
All you holy men and women, Saints of God, intercede for us.
