Laudato Si?
On 11/22/24, Angel Studios will release Bonhoeffer. As per my Amazon review of Eric Metaxas' "magisterial" Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy:
The life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer reminds me so much of the life of Dietrich Von Hildebrand.... Both Dietrichs gave inspiring witness to Christ, in the face of Nazi madness....
Bonhoeffer's...life showed an ever deepening understanding that "to be chosen by God as his prophet always meant, in part, that the prophet would share in God's sufferings" (p. 123).
Bonhoeffer's deep piety and intellect, as well as the personal circumstances of his life, led to his clear understanding of the demonics of Adolph Hitler, long before most others....Bonhoeffer was eventually executed for his role in efforts to overthrow Hitler....
"Bonhoeffer thought it the plain duty of the Christian - and the privilege and honor - to suffer with those who suffer" (p. 532). As per the eulogy of his friend, Franz Hildebrant, reprinted on the last pages of this book: "He came from an academic home and seemed destined for the academic life....His complexity was not such as to allow for any doubt between right and wrong. To probe the problem of ethics was not to indulge in the game of `dialectical' theology. The search had to lead to the goal, the quest demanded an answer....The unrest of the quest ends in the discipleship of Christ" (pp. 538 - 542)
Had he lived longer, I strongly suspect that Dietrich Bonhoeffer would have become Catholic. I greatly look forward to the new film.
