Avoid verse slinging
I’m seriously failing to understand why we even respond to Anti Catholics.
I don’t feel like these people learn their lesson, or even if they’re listening.
Also, just for fun, listen to this song before you read this; Talking Heads - Once In A Lifetime
Before we get started, check out my latest video on Locals, and be sure to check me out there! Russia is not a Christian country
Now, I know God can (and does) work miracles. But, the thing is, the arguments are always the same, and they all function the same way.
“The Roman Catholic Church is the whore of Babylon”, okay, cool, guess Eastern Catholics are safe.
They quote the same Bible verses (out of context, I might add) to try to “prove” their position. And they often attack Catholic beliefs…that other Protestants have.
For instance, the one that seems to be an issue with a lot of these people, is infant baptism. But, the Bible doesn’t explicitly say whether or not you should baptize infants, Something the Bible doesn't teach, though, I would argue it does implicitly, An overlooked passage on baptismal regeneration and infant baptism.
But Lutherans, Anglicans, and Presbyterians (just to name a few), all baptize infants.
Or they’ll argue how the Eucharist can’t “really” be the body and blood of Christ (which is bizarre, because a few will even claim that Paul usurps Jesus in authority, I am not making that up, apparently forgetting that Jesus and Paul don’t contradict each other; Paul's Eucharistic Theology.
They’ll claim the Catholic Church added books to the Bible (it was actually Protestants that removed them Those extra books ain’t extra, Bringing the Deuterocanon to the masses)
Now, I’m not saying we shouldn’t engage these people (we should, there’s a reason I use the King James Version of the Bible a lot), but, the truth is, and it’s not something I want to admit to, but, you should always, remember the reason you do what you do.
It’s not you that creates converts, it’s God.
Some people (those who know nothing about paganism), even go so far as to claim Catholicism is pagan.
I have an awful Protestant study Bible that claims Constantine made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. Actually, that was Theodosius I. How Clericalism Happened: A Tale of Theodosius
What happened under Constantine was the Edict of Milan, which issued toleration for Christians. I also get really annoyed at bad faith arguments, like that somehow Constantine wasn’t fully converted. There may be some truth to that, but, I doubt that he was secretly still pagan, and that “infiltrated” the Church. Emperors could only call councils, they had no authority over what bishops did at them; 2.2 The Council of Nicaea: First and Foremost/.
As for Constantine, his mother was a Christian; St. Helena
Even if the article is accurate, and she converted AFTER Constantine did, it’s unlikely that his family would convert if they didn’t believe him to be serious, especially when heavy persecution was in living memory.
You could share every single thing I just shared with you, and some people will refuse to accept it. You could give them Bible verse Bible verse, and they still wouldn’t listen.
Because, the truth is, some people just don’t want to know the truth.
I think the mentality is similar to Islam. Try talking to a Muslim about the crucifixion, they will almost always claim that the Bible was “corrupted”.
So, the Anti Catholic will claim that Christianity was “corrupted” by Constantine. Never mind the fact, the beliefs that Anti-Catholics rant against were there from the beginning; Church fathers
Wrapping up, whilst sites like YouTube and Rumble have a vested interest in promoting the false Anti-Catholic gospel (false, because what Anti Catholics have a problem with, isn’t Catholicism, anyway), that doesn’t mean the people in those videos are well studied, they probably aren’t theologians (neither am I, but I study), and they have a serious deficit when it comes to knowing history.
Of course, this may come from their education (or lack thereof). These people are not stupid. They just rely way too much on emotion. And, if there’s one thing we know, it’s that “The heart is deceitful above all things, who can understand it”?Jeremiah 17:9
Luckily, the Lord tells us; Jeremiah 17:10
I think there are too many people being deceived by their own hearts.
“Listen to your heart”, makes for a fun refrain in songs, but lousy advice in real life.
Anyway, my point is this, always be ready to give a defense; 1 Peter 3:15
And if you’re an Anti Catholic Protestant that somehow stumbled upon this article; Get new arguments!
