How Many Bishops Does It Take to Change a Lightbulb?
I have just returned home from seeing Bonhoeffer: Pastor. Spy. Assassin. Throughout the film, I found myself wondering if Bonhoeffer's notion of "The Cost of Discipleship" was rightly understood or presented. As per my Amazon review of Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy (which I cited less than two weeks ago):
Bonhoeffer's...life showed an ever deepening understanding that "to be chosen by God as his prophet always meant, in part, that the prophet would share in God's sufferings" (p. 123).
Bonhoeffer's deep piety and intellect, as well as the personal circumstances of his life, led to his clear understanding of the demonics of Adolph Hitler, long before most others
...Bonhoeffer was eventually executed for his role in efforts to overthrow Hitler
I hope that the movie will lead viewers to read more about this incredible man.
