Sunday Mass
Mary’s Miraculous Prayer
Submitted by Thomas Stidl
We say the “Hail Mary” without even giving the words time to sink into our minds and hearts. When we say “Hail Mary”, we are actually endearing ourselves to Her and Her Divine Son Jesus. We are also acknowledging the words of the angel Gabriel. We are basically praying part of the Gospel of Luke. The next words “Full of Grace” acknowledge the Father and the Holy Spirit. We also say “Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus”. These words enforce the role of women in our world. That role is to nourish the seed which God plants. We also realize that Mary always points to Jesus. She has done this her entire earthly life. You see this at his birth, his Presentation in the Temple, her finding Him in the Temple, and the Wedding Feast at Cana. At that wedding feast we read her last words recorded in the Christian Testament. They are, “Do whatever He tells you”. We should follow that advice every day of our lives.
She was with Jesus at Calvary standing beneath the cross looking up at Him. She was with Him at his death and burial. Even though the bible does not record this, I am quite sure that Jesus appeared to Her after His Resurrection before He went to round up his disciples.
Next, we pray “Holy Mary, Mother of God”. We acknowledge that Mary fulfilled the grace of salvation that began with Abraham by serving her Son while realizing that He was also Her Master. We then ask her to pray for us sinners now and at our death. I have heard it often said by many priests that while Jesus gave the keys to the kingdom to Peter, He had a duplicate set of keys made for Mary. Is it any wonder that the “Hail Mary” is an integral part of the Rosary?
There is a hymn called the “Miracle of the Rosary”. The lyrics reflect that Mary intercedes for us with Her Divine Son. Part of the lyrics addressing Mary is, “Only You can hold back Your Only Son’s hand long enough for the world to understand.” The singer’s name is Elvis Presley. The hymn was recorded for the RCA Victor album called “He Walks Beside Me”. So when you say the “Hail Mary”, please realize that you are praising the Triune Godhead through Mary. On a more earthly level, whom do we go to when we need assistance? We go to our mother. So it would be natural to go to Mary, our Heavenly Mother. Padre Pio once wrote, “May the Mother of Jesus, and our Mother always smile on you and obtain for you from Her Most Holy Son, every Heavenly Blessing.” As the lyrics of the hymn mentioned above states, “ Thanks once again for the Miracle of your Rosary.”
Until next time, Laus Tibi, Christe. Deo Gratias. Gloria Tibi Domini. Praise be to God. See you in Paradise. Amen.
