Sudden Fear
ST. ANDREW
By Mary Olivia Patiño
In the Sea of Galilee
In the Jordan Rift
Andrew fished tirelessly
Alongside his brother Simon
Muscles stretched beyond limits
They grip heavy nets
Strain against the wind
Cast far out to fish
Gazing at blue serene waters
Struggling against the waves
Day and night, some catch was vast
Some fish escaped, swam away
Families depended on fishermen to live
Sell ‘musht’, sardines, other fish
At market for all to eat
Healthy omega feed
One day, while waiting for their catch
Andrew and Simon met their match
Jesus walked by the sea
Called: “Come with me.”
His words too strong to ignore
Andrew threw down his net
Ran to tell others about this man of Nazareth
Followed Jesus to the last breath
Andrew and Simon, now called Peter(Cephas)
Stayed faithful to the end
Cast out God’s Word
Caught many souls
Throughout the earth
Souls, too, have to be fed, you know
Both brothers crucified
Andrew died in Greece
Today, we celebrate his Feast
