Remaining on the Vine
Today we hear great words of hope about a voice crying out in the desert to prepare the way of the Lord and that with Christ’s birth, valleys will be filled, winding roads will be made straight and rough ways be made smooth. We hear that those who sow in tears will reap rejoicing.
Once again, we find ourselves in that desert before Christmas where we should aim to find some silence and stillness to hear God’s voice crying out to us. What is He trying to say this year to you as you prepare for Christ’s birth?
Where are there tears in your life? Winding roads that aren’t straight yet? Rough terrain that needs to be smoother? Empty valleys that aren’t filled yet? Think of these as metaphors for aspects of your life.
There may be some words from God that we are constantly resisting or maybe don’t realize are His voice. We may hear them at mass, in Scripture, or in prayer. We may hear them through a spouse, colleague, or a friend. We may hear them repetitively over and over again. These could be God’s voice crying out to you to prepare the way for whatever He wants to do in your life! Don't resist His movement in your life so His promises can indeed be fulfilled.
I pray this Advent season is a time when you are able to hear God’s voice crying out to you and respond.
