Amazing Grace and Ice Cream
"Freely you have received; freely give." ~ Matthew 10:8
Whenever I think of Christmas gifts, I always imagine a perfectly wrapped present waiting patiently under the Christmas tree. My mind's eye can see the crisp red wrapping paper, maybe slightly ripped in a few spots that are cleverly hidden by folding the paper just right. A golden bow is centered, thanks to careful aim and prayer, and is glittering on its perch in the glow of the Christmas tree lights. My mind's eye squints a little and the To & From tag can be seen filled out with a swirling cursive, the delicate beauty of it outweighing the fact that it is also almost completely illegible. This is the image of a Christmas gift that will always remain in my heart.
I wonder what I would put inside that beautiful box if I were to give Christ a gift. What would I expect to find if He gave me a gift? It's interesting that the only things I can think of that would be worth giving and receiving from Him are not physical; they wouldn't fit in a box. I wonder what would happen if I felt the same toward my family and friends? In addition to the physical presents, what can I give them this Christmas that cannot be wrapped?
