The Holy Spirit
Living In Today
Eileen Renders
This is a thought we seldom may have due to the busy life most of us live. Young adults not unlike most middle-aged folks have College or job-related training, work, friends, and family. Many have a spouse and maybe children as well. There can be many responsibilities, including financial obligations that require much of our attention.
Adding the stress that often presents itself, we might sometimes just wish for more sleep. Although this is not by any means a negative lifestyle, it does come with challenges and we can easily overlook the opportunities that are present, yet often overlooked.
As we move through the week, we often look forward to the weekend to relax and enjoy some free time to do the things we like most to do. More often than not, we may always be thinking of tomorrow, or looking forward to next week, our vacation, that special BBQ with friends, or a Concert we bought tickets for.
I think you know where this is going. We are not living in today, enjoying each day as it is given to us by God. We might ask ourselves; “what can I do differently to be living today?” That is a fair question. Living in and enjoying today requires us to take as little as one or two hours and use them each day to do and enjoy what surrounds us. These are opportunities.
For some, it may be as simple as taking the kids out for ice cream, or a drive in the car. Maybe a half hour to take a run, or walk through the local park to stop and enjoy saying hello to neighbors, or watch children playing.
Others might feel inspired to check in on their elderly neighbors or family members who no longer drive, yet are in need of a few items from the local store. The satisfaction that we derive from doing a good deed now and then is most satisfying. Not only are we helping others, but we are also receiving a thumbs up from our loving Father in heaven.
Tomorrow comes soon enough, and with a peaceful soul, we are better able to handle what comes our way.
